My Experience at MMC August 4th, 2007
It was my third day in Spain. Needless to say, I was not yet comfortable in my new surroundings. As we finished our daily prayer meeting at Malaga Media Center (MMC), Roland Walter, head of Spanish Ministries, turned to me and asked if I could help him out. Being an intern and looking for anything productive to do, I quickly replied, “Yes,” not knowing what was in store. Before I knew it, I was dressed in a Spanish nurse’s outfit, checking the IV of a “dying” man.
The filming of the last part of the “People Like You” series just happened to take place the first week of my internship. I was able not only to see firsthand how a live video shoot works, but I was also given the chance to make my big-screen debut. The lights dimmed and cameras began rolling, but I could immediately tell that this wasn’t going to be a typical movie. The message to be presented was more important than in any other I’ve ever seen.
The cast and crew gathered together in a small apartment on the coast of Málaga to begin filming. I sat back in awe of the whole process, overwhelmed by the quick decisions, rearranging of sets, and rapid-fire Spanish. With several touch-ups of make up and repositioning of lights, we were soon on our way. The actors were locals with little experience, yet presented themselves better than some professionals I’ve seen. More impressive than the actors, however, were the people working behind the scenes. It was apparent that Roland truly had a vision for this project – his passion and drive showed through in his work.
I am extremely impressed with the character of people involved at Málaga Media Center. Their desire to spread the gospel is contagious, and they are using innovative methods to evangelize the world in a remarkable way. I only hope that one day I can likewise impact the world for Christ with the gifts He has given me.
